An explosion rocked Golden Sun Finance Corporation in
Lapasan Highway, Cagayan de Oro City on or about 7:49 a.m., November 21, 2012. The
incident happened just less than a kilometer away from the Police Regional Office
at Camp Alagar in this city
It was reported that female employees of said finance
establishment asked the assistance of a security guard at an adjacent building
to open the accordion door because they could not open it all by themselves. Granting their request, the security guard
known as JR Palma went to the door. However, as he opened it a bomb exploded
that injured him and the two female employees named as Varcelisa Salamanca and
Fretzy Prios. Also injured were retired police officer Rodolfo Cabutad and another
policeman named Rogelio Mendiola and three other people. The victims were rushed
to the nearby hospital at Capitol University Medical City and Northern Mindanao
Medical Center. Only Palma sustained serious injury while the rest of the
victims are reported to be already out of danger.
Initial investigation had it that the blast was caused by a
WWII vintage MK 2 grenade which the perpetrator planted by tying it with a twine on the lower portion of the door. The opening of the door pulled off the safety pin of the
grenade causing it to explode.
An officer of the finance establishment speculated that the
crime might have been perpetrated by an angry client whom the bank filed charge
in connection with his transaction in it.
This blast happened just a month before another bomb
exploded at Maxandria Hotel in this city which resulted to the death of
two persons. Until now the perpetrators are yet to be brought to justice and
the police authorities have not yet issued official statement on the result of
their investigation.
The residents of the city hope that the perpetrators of this
bombing will be caught and punished otherwise bad elements may think that they
can commit crimes with impunity in the city.
